Watch: Bert Light Tells His Chronic Tinnitus Story

“Lenire is a game-changer. It is what I had been waiting for.”

Volunteer pilot, Bert Light, had lived with mild tinnitus for a decade. The Atlanta native’s tinnitus was manageable until one day in 2018 his tinnitus “went from 4 out of 10 to 15.” Bert had developed chronic tinnitus. His tinnitus wasn’t just impacting his life, but had the potential to impact the lives of the patients he supports.

Angel Flight Soars – Tinnitus Turbulence

Bert Light is a private pilot who volunteers Angel Flight Soars. The non-profit is an organisation of volunteer pilots. These altruistic aviators fly patients to destinations where they can receive urgent medical care for free.

Cancer patients, people with severe burns and many more medical patients depend on Bert. Once Bert’s tinnitus became chronic, there was a chance his plane could be grounded.

“I’m wearing headsets in the airplane, and the last thing as a pilot you want to do is keep asking the controller — what did you say?” said Bert Light, “What are my instructions? What am I to do? Over and over again due to my tinnitus.”

Bert’s co-pilot supported him while his tinnitus was chronic but tinnitus was taking its toll on Bert.

“I felt isolated with tinnitus, because it was keeping me from enjoying life.” said Bert, “Tinnitus was debilitating is what it was.”

Bert needed to get help for his tinnitus but, like many tinnitus patients, he didn’t know where to look. That’s when he heard about Lenire’s FDA Approval.

Treating Chronic Tinnitus with FDA-Approved Lenire

Lenire received FDA-Approval following the success of the device’s controlled clinical trial, TENT-A3. FDA-Approval was the sign that Americans living with tinnitus have been waiting for.

“I had been waiting for the FDA’s seal of approval on the product, I’m going in.” said Bert.

Fortunately for Bert, Lenire-certified clinic, Peachtree Hearing was a short bike-ride away from his Atlanta home. After an assessment, Bert left of Peachtree Hearing with his Lenire device, confident that he would get relief from tinnitus.

“As soon as I met Dr. Culberson and Dr. Wikoff at Peachtree Hearing, it was wonderful” said Bert.

Bert treated his tinnitus at-home with guidance from Dr. Culberson and Dr. Wikoff. Every day, twice a day, he used Lenire for 30-minutes. He made sure he was in a quiet room with no distractions or electronics. Bert compared his experience with Lenire to meditating.

After 12-weeks of treating his tinnitus with Lenire, Bert says he “tends to forget he has tinnitus.”

“My life has changed dramatically. I go out to restaurants now, I interact with people.” said Bert, “Tinnitus isn’t ruling my life anymore. I would say to anyone looking to explore Lenire, it is worth looking into. Absolutely.”
